Events and advertising campaigns require a wide range of communication materials. Banners, flyers, uniforms, promotional displays, and much more. With L’Oréal it was no different. However, instead of discarding the leftover material, they wanted to ensure an environmentally sound and socially responsible outcome.
The challenge
4 kg of t-shirtsfrom the 2017 SCA Convention Top Club that were no longer of use to L’Oréal.
The solution
The L’Oréal team presented the waste they had to our sales team. Together with our product lab, we arrived at a transformation alternative. They decided that a great new beginning for these shirts would be to welcome the company's new employees. From them, we created 50 A6 notebooks.

Hands that transform
The artisans responsible for producing these gifts were from the Mãos Brasil group in São Gonçalo, Rio de Janeiro. They have been creating pieces from waste for 11 years, and despite all their experience, the demand surprised the group.
“Working with the L'Oréal shirts was a very pleasant surprise. I always work with colorful fabrics, and when I received the black t-shirt, I thought I wouldn't like it. But I ended up with a clean and chic product. After the silk screen was applied, it looked wonderful. I loved working on repurposing these shirts. Bring on the next ones!” Angela Krugel | Mãos Brasil Artisan
And something so elegant deserved packaging to match. That’s why the artisan herself suggested that the notebooks be accompanied by pouches also made from the t-shirts.
+ Impact
The solution ensured that 93% of the fabric was repurposed. Out of the 4 kg of waste, 3.75 kg were given a new purpose.
And the impact didn't stop at the environmental solution. The production generated income for the group's artisans.

If L’Oréal was looking for a positive environmental impact, they achieved it. In a single project, they transformed useless shirts into something useful for the company itself. And they went further, generating income for Brazilian artisans.
